The debut release from three-piece OUTLYA is easily likeable, epically imagined and simple enough to digest without too much thought. Hoping to lead us further towards The Light of their bombastic refuge, the trio gift all that they have to their vision and it’s a awing result.
Track of the Day
TRACK OF THE DAY: Yellow Days – ‘Go Home’
Inspired by the seemingly endless stories doing the rounds celebrating and pontificating on the ten year anniversary since the first airing of Skins, the ‘coming-of-age’ TV series for the MySpace Generation – I dipped back in to give it a re-watch. Yes, the acting is pretty naff, and the supposedly intimidatingly cool kids look hella outdated […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Jack Cheshire – ‘Join The Dots’
‘Join the Dots’ is a much more complex track than its title suggests, immediately inviting us into intrigue and the search for meaning. Consider it a game – and far from a child’s.
TRACK OF THE DAY: RALPH – ‘Tease’
Our favourite Canadian true teller RALPH has returned with a wink and a perfect dose of disco-pop. ‘Tease’ has us pining for those hot, balmy summer days by the pool (partly because of the zinger of a video that accompanies, but also for the kinetic sensuality which ensues).
TRACK OF THE DAY: CAESAR – ‘Crossed Wires’
A smooth groove-heavy start from Northern lads CAESAR, confirming they’re not just another generic indie band from Manchester. They deliver an exquisite twist to the indie rock framework with new single ‘Crossed Wires’.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Overcoats – ‘Hold Me Close’
New York City has been a breeding ground for creative types for centuries – its grassroots nature assisting the nourishment and nurture for those wildcard dreams that are just too audacious to mute. The result, a haven for progressive culture and forward-thinking art – enter NYC duo Overcoats, who approach electronica in a brave and […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Flyte – ‘Echoes’
It’s a cause for celebration, after almost a year and a half of little-to-no-contact with the London foursome, Flyte have finally broken their silence. Lifting the latch on the door to their debut album, ‘Echoes’ reveals an assured subtleness beneath timeless chalky synth refrains and wistful melody.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Glass Peaks – ‘Speak & Spell’
Fast becoming hotly tipped as a ‘break-through band for 2017’, South-East band Glass Peaks release their sophomore single ‘Speak & Spell’. Continuing in the light of their debut single ‘Your Eyes’ (acclaimed as BBC Introducing’s ‘Record Of The Week’ back in January), ‘Speak & Spell’ unreels evocative and dynamic pop from the four-piece.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Alex Lucas – ‘Fade Away’
Alex Lucas, former singer/songwriter from The DuBarrys, is back with a solo project in the form of his debut release ‘Fade Away’.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Gender Roles – ‘Skin’
Oh yeah! ‘Skin’, the lead single from Gender Roles’ new EP ‘Planet X-Ray’ is the perfect fuzzed-out, bratty tonic to all the bullshit things that are inexplicably happening. Snarling vocals, brutal bass, and a heavy dose of cymbals congeal together with off-kilter guitar licks to create a feel-bad-feel-good winter hit.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Burkini Beach – ‘The World At Our Fingertips’
Over a year after his debut release, Burkini Beach (aka. Rudi Maier) brings us his new single ‘The World At Our Fingertips’, accompanied by a brightly coloured carousel of arcade scenes, cartoon clips and home movie-esque close ups.
TRACK OF THE DAY: TEAR – ‘Careless Again’
TEAR don’t hide behind pretension or facade, in fact, they prefer to bare their bruises and scars for all to see, warts and all. It’s a brave assertion of their humanity, and in today’s world this is a sure-fire way to be noticed. And noticed they are, for latest cut ‘Careless Again’ brings a fury like no […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Rosie Carney – ‘Awake Me’
‘Awake Me’ manages to achieve a rare balance – although it could be classified in the ambient genre, it is a track which still possesses the power to move you, inside.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Family Friends – ‘I’m Like You’
Family Friends, the aptly named brother-sister duo from London via Melbourne, have dropped a sunny cut from their upcoming EP in the form of ‘I’m Like You’.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Swimming Tapes – ‘Cameos’
Taken from their debut EP ‘Souvenirs’, London indie dreamers Swimming Tapes radiate melancholic bliss on ‘Cameos’. A succulent sun-soaked taste of a band destined for great success.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Tourists – ‘Masquerade’
The seaside town of Torquay has acted as the perfect springboard for electronic-pop purveyors Tourists to launch themselves from. The journey so far feeling more like a graceful glide and half-turn, than a straight dive into the unknown. As the band begin preparations for their first full-length album, we are delighted to fill in a piece […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: EAT FAST – ‘Sand Drone’
Eat Fast’s ‘Sand Drone’ is a tune that meets in a head on collision with your ears and rattles all the space in between. The band are quick to start, jumping the gun with a foot-to-the-floor mentality, a refreshing introduction to their first sample of music this year.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Carnivals – ‘City of Skulls’
Carnivals waste no time in getting to where they want to be with their new release ‘City of Skulls’. Opening with a raucous explosion of forceful guitars and drums, overseen by the lead guitar (and subsequent vocal) hook – aptly referential to the clear psych influences. One can’t help but notice the South-East Londoner’s influences, […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: ISLAND – ‘Dreaming Of’
Music often has the ability to transcend into a force greater than itself, in the case of London group ISLAND we find their dreamy snapshots of young life to be certainly profound, if not remarkably invigorating. The final taster to be revealed from their upcoming ‘A Place You Like’ EP remains pensive and subtle, without ever […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Dom Robinson – ‘Good Love’
After a busy 2016, Leeds-based indie folk musician Dom Robinson starts the year as he means to go on with ‘Good Love’, the first of several new releases.
