Over a year after his debut release, Burkini Beach (aka. Rudi Maier) brings us his new single ‘The World At Our Fingertips’, accompanied by a brightly coloured carousel of arcade scenes, cartoon clips and home movie-esque close ups.
A deviation from the his indie punk duo The Dope, Maier’s solo project is a more delicate affair, blending gentle melodies and whispered vocals that seem to sit beside you and sing wistfully into your ear.
Citing Elliott Smith and Death Cab For Cutie as influences, Burkini Beach is a combination of honest and sincere songwriting with an almost dark sense of humour. While his lyrics depict images of past summers and lost opportunity, Maier approaches notions of nostalgia and anxiety with a wry wit, lazy guitar parts and a chorus that lingers on the verge of pop.
Recorded by Maier in his Berlin apartment, ‘The World At Our Fingertips’ surpasses its modest origins and leaves us eagerly awaiting news of an album.
‘The World At Our Fingertips’ is out now, find on iTunes here.
