As far as first singles go, ‘Free Animal’ by American duo Foreign Air is right up there. With the EP due to be released in February of next year, the pair have set themselves a tough act to follow.

WATCH: Cub Sport – ‘Only Friend’
Airy yet melancholic synth arpeggios open this fantastic track from Brisbane alt-pop group Cub Sport, with the repeated painful title line “you’re my only friend…” ushering in the anthemic chorus. The overall off-kilter and slightly gloomy feeling of the song is an intentional device used to musically articulate the central themes in the lyrics. As […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Dan San – ‘America’
Life can get hard sometimes. There are days when we all just want to get away from the pressures that build up. We search for an escape route, some place that will make us feel comforted, to free our minds or to just simply relax. Music is my way of escapism. Music is a shared […]
In Conversation with…HER
From the first hit of snaps and claps to it’s slow building groove, ‘Five Minutes’ is pop at its best. Hook-filled, dynamic and alluring. This is HER – the French duo that have captured the world’s attention off the back of two stunning singles. These suavely dressed gentlemen are hot property.
2015 IN REVIEW: Albums
2015 has been full of surprises. From Ryan Adam’s cover album of Taylor Swift’s critically acclaimed 1989, to Kayne’s headline slot at Glastonbury and the re-emergence of Adele. Right the way to Justin Bieber’s blonde haired return to the airwaves and a new Coldplay album, it’s been an eventful 12 months that’s for sure.
Many things about…FAIRCHILD
Aussie six-piece Fairchild set about to make our lives that little bit more interesting with their sprawling synth-led rock. They set the ears ablaze, all the while the feet are groovin’.
Many things about…ISLAND
London band ISLAND have a way with capturing emotion at it’s most vulnerable and poetic, leaving their listeners powerlessly under their spell. With the release of debut EP ‘Girl’ still ripe enough to taste, the band’s unfurling melodies and musical charm are set to ignite the whole nation in glorious wonderment.
Many things about… BROKEN HANDS
The Canterbury five-piece Broken Hands have taken psychedelica and riff-heavy rock, mixed it in a melting pot with distortion and fuzz, and turned it into something quite visceral and wholly satisfying. The band’s debut album ‘Turbulence’ was released earlier this year. Where a visit to the airport by the band’s frontman, sparked the basis for the […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Richard Walters – ‘July Bones’
Richard Walters continues to impress us with his band Liu Bei, but his solo work was completely unknown to us before we heard his latest understated masterpiece ‘July Bones’. A song inspired by American author T.C Boyle’s novel ‘Drop City’.
TRACK OF THE DAY: Indoor Pets – ‘Pro Procrastinator’
We love Kent bands, that is a fact. The South East has become a hub for creativity, nurturing and sustaining a growing music scene that is incredibly exciting. One of the bands that are really tearing it up right now are Sittingbourne’s Indoor Pets, with the recent release of their ‘Luge Lessons’ EP, the band […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Fairchild – ‘Breathless’
Synthesizers? Check. Guitars? Check. A sexy, sultry vocal? Check. These parts when amalgamated together become Fairchild’s new single ‘Breathless’. A slow dance of intoxicating indie rhythms and danceable, slow-burning melodies. It’s delightful.
TRACK OF THE DAY: TUSKA – ‘Fine’
A song with a straight up no nonsense drum beat for an intro always gets me, it’s a bit of a weakness, so I always feel let down if the rest of the band come in and ruin it. This is thankfully nowhere near the case with ‘Fine’ by TUSKA; the washy synths warm up […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Lostboycrow – ‘Talk Back To Me’
‘Talk Back To Me’ is the latest single to be taken from LA’s soulful anthemist Lostboycrow’s debut EP. Again this new cut is a collaboration between the LA artist and producer collective Sexy Electric.
TRACK OF THE DAY: October Drift – ‘Syrup’
October Drift’s recent influx of new material has been keeping us on our toes. The band continue to show us new sides to their musical tapestry. ‘Syrup’ is the new cut, a dramatic rolling deluge of pent-up emotion and gentle swaying rhythms.
SONG OF THE WEEK: King Charles – ‘Gamble For A Rose’
After years of waiting for new music from the illustrious King Charles, the wait is finally over. The delightfully flamboyant folk singer announced that his sophomore album will be released in the new year, and is titled ‘Gamble For A Rose’, the first single to be taken from the LP is the title track.
WATCH: The Slow Readers Club – ‘Plant the Seed’
Manchester’s Slow Readers Club have always been firm favourites of ours, and they continue to stun with each new release. Taken from their glorious second album ‘Cavalcade’ is new single ‘Plant the Seed’ – a brooding, intense three minutes of anthemic indie-electro. It’s the band at their most innovative.
EP REVIEW: Chastity – ‘Tape’
‘Tape’ is the new 4-track release from Canadian alt-punk group Chastity. I heard first track ‘You’re Scary Now’ a bit in advance of the rest of the EP, and was all set to remark on the linearity of this track – in neither a negative nor positive way, just noting an interesting departure from the […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: KLOE – ‘Touch’
Flashback to the end of 2014, and like every year that’s coming to a close, a sense of anticipation and possibility looms around every corner – what’s coming next? Where will the next year take us? But before the year was even out, we were hearing glimmers of something big. Something epic from a young […]
In Conversation with…FALLS
When I was first starting out, performing my songs live, finding venues to play, it seemed like a monstrously difficult task. Until I was offered a slot at a small night, that was quickly developing a dedicated following. This night was called Folk Club, and was curated and executed by Sydney singer/songwriter duo Falls, made […]
TRACK OF THE DAY: Wyldest – ‘Dark Matter’
London shoegazers Wyldest are back, with the first single to be taken from their upcoming debut EP, due early next year. As the track’s title suggests, the group hold a fascination with the unseen things and the mysterious. Yet ‘Dark Matter’ remains to be both atmospheric and intensely melodic.
