London shoegazers Wyldest are back, with the first single to be taken from their upcoming debut EP, due early next year. As the track’s title suggests, the group hold a fascination with the unseen things and the mysterious. Yet ‘Dark Matter’ remains to be both atmospheric and intensely melodic.
The single, produced by Guy Massey (Palma Violets/The Libertines), brings about a deeper experimentation and a surprise progression within the trio’s music. As the track reaches it climax, this becomes clear, the guitars ramp up velocity and lead a darker groove into fruition, resting atop of warping synths and haunting vocal harmonies.
It’s a beautifully contained whirlpool of wondrous dream pop. Wyldest have found their calling, and I think we’re more than ready to jump aboard their light-speed train.
Wyldest play The Waiting Room in London on Friday 27th November supporting Martha Ffion, for more info and tickets head here.
