LIVE REVIEW: Freya Ridings at St George’s Church, London

It’s safe to say it has been a bit of a whirlwind year so far for singer-songwriter Freya Ridings. With her single ‘Lost Without You’ going viral after being featured on Love Island, touring across the UK and US, and her latest UK tour close to selling out, everything is looking up for the London based singer.

We were lucky enough to be a part of a pure and intimate performance in the heart of London’s St George’s Church earlier this week. The church pews brimming with excited dwellers, and the room lit in such a way it almost felt magical, Freya Ridings entered to applause and anticipation.

With just her voice and a piano, Freya launches into ‘Ultraviolet,’ her hypnotising vocal filling the venue – no one dared speak or chatter over the serene piano melodies enveloping the audience. As is with her piano playing, Freya’s stage presence is subtle yet oozing a powerful prowess unmatched by anything we’ve seen before. It’s fascinating to see how just a simple pairing of piano and vocals can captivate a crowd as much as her music did.

She pulls the audience through a symphonic setlist; ‘Castles’ creates a haunting ambience throughout the church, whilst ‘Lost Without You’ – her most popular single – summons the crowd to sing along and embrace the pure essence of Freya’s live performance.

Finishing on ‘Holy Water,’ an ironic choice in a venue such as a church, Freya Ridings provides a little audience involvement for the finale during the ‘oohs’ and ‘uuuhs’ brought the fantastic display of her talent to close.

Freya Ridings is well on her way to success, and with the sheer talent and passion she showed in St George’s Church, we cannot wait to see how far she can go.

Freya Ridings will take her live performance across the UK in October and November this year. Tickets are on sale now.
