As a taster for their forthcoming mini-album, Recital, Team Picture will be seriously whetting appetites with this newly-released stormer.
Recital is said to be a release of two halves – one more distinctly electronic based and the other harking back to the post punk days of bands like Wire and Talking Heads.
‘Break Yr Heart’ is squarely from the latter side and while I wasn’t particularly picking up those two references, there was certainly an element of the Bunnymen’s guitar swirls and spirals from a similar period.
And this Leeds-based six-piece are not frightened of summoning up the spirit of other classic combos.
Speaking about the track, guitarist Josh says: “‘Break Yr Heart’ is kind of a classic rock song with a fuzzy bottom end and some really seat-of-the-pants vocals. Kind of like The Stooges if they were a bunch of nerds.”
Underpinning the whole thing is some thumping glam-style drumming that lends the whole thing an air of Primal Scream, when then they decided to shun experimentation in favour of sounding like the Stones.
Impressively ‘Break Yr Heart’ nicely sidesteps cliché by going off-kilter when you least expect it, but still delivers a massive guitar hook.
A hometown date on June 1st at the Brudenell Social Club will mark the release of Recital, followed by a short tour that takes in Wakefield, Hull, Glasgow and Manchester.
