TRACK OF THE DAY: Kalpa – ‘Wrong Faces’

A submerged sea of twangy energy sets off the new single from Bath-based outfit Kalpa, the distinct vocals of frontman Sam wake up my ears and I’m instantly pulled in.

The melodies solidify the song for me, with great push and pull coming out of the chorus and into the second verse, this is a strong and punchy pop song, no doubt about it. Spread across three short minutes, they’ve kept it short and sharp – and it definitely makes an impact.

The band kind of remind me of Sundara Karma, don’t know if that will offend them but nonetheless it’s a great sound. Strong lyrics, distinctive sound both vocally and musically, fast paced and catchy. Great pop music.

I can imagine the band being extremely fun to watch live and it’s rare to hear a recording that allows the listener to think that. Bravo.

‘Wrong Faces’ is out now – available to purchase on iTunes here.
