Track of the Day

TRACK OF THE DAY: Bryde – ‘To Be Brave’

Confirming the release of her long-anticipated debut album, Bryde welcomes in the news with simmering precision on lead single, ‘To Be Brave.’

As intimate as a diary entry and as resilient as an action hero, ‘To Be Brave’ talks of strength but not the obvious kind: “To Be Brave was written as kind of a soft squeeze of the hand to many friends who have, like me, been through many a dark period and put on a brave face and just got on with it. It’s a comment about how we all live out certain episodes of our lives in such a public setting these days that I feel we almost edit them to appear flawless, nothing but smiles” says Bryde.

Knotted chords and foggy reverberation create a melody of murky ascent, building from simple subtleties to a prowl of thunderous instrumentation. The effect of this gradually growing intensity and volume amplifies the track’s lyrical presence, allowing a listener to experience its emotions deeper and more resoundingly.

It’s impossible to deny the relevance of a voice like Bryde’s when her songs are so rooted in the everyday. We’d like to think that her music will outlast our current times and find new resonance with all those who are still yet to press play, but for now we enjoy the unrehearsed beauty in what’s still to come.

‘To Be Brave’ features on Bryde’s debut album, ‘Like An Island,’ which is set for release on 13th April 2018 via Seahorse Music. Pre-Order’s can be made here, including various formats and exclusive bundles.
