Song of the Week

SONG OF THE WEEK: Caro – ‘Lick Your Lips’

Leeds’ Caro are a band who turn compelling intentions into flowery art pieces, forever inventive is their approach towards indie rock. ‘Lick Your Lips,’ the first release of 2018 for the band is just more proof why eclecticism is becoming a new staple. This is guitar pop with flair, to underestimate the genre’s value and scope is foolish. For it is via bands like Caro, who push the boundaries of the conventional, that we learn music’s true potential.

Accompanying the release is a brilliant film clip comprised of mashed-up performance footage and abstract depictions of thematic importance. Alongside a fast-paced edit, flickers of the three band members capture an off-centre instability, a theme also mirrored in the track itself. For a song which focuses on the subjectiveness of personal opinion, there is plenty to get excited about, not least its attentive melodic hooks and scuffed bass riffs.

There’s no time like the present, get to know the band and catch them out on tour (dates below) whilst they’re still playing small venues. It’s a treat.

‘Lick Your Lips’ is out now via Mannequin Head Records – purchase on iTunes here.
