It’s no secret that EAT FAST have been a regular in our pages since they launched, now well into the music game, the lo-fi punks step out of the shade to bring us their most action-packed moment to date: ‘Immortal Kombat’.
‘Immortal Kombat’ sees every Photoshop overlay in the book attached to this brilliant dazzle of video content, but fluorescent inverts aren’t the main focus here, no. In fact, EAT FAST go all intellectual on us. “Immortal Kombat is a document to the limitations of self-love; the pathology of loneliness in the modern world; the intrinsic need to connect and identify with other human beings; and of course, death, and how our approach to mortality affects the way in which we love,” they explain in a press release.
The lead track from their current body of work is typical of their aesthetic: sharpened with giant riffs, groggy with fuzz and contextualised on bursts of melody. This instantaneous recognition is what takes a band from average, to great, and EAT FAST certainly fall under the latter category. Their tight inner dynamics weave a provocative web of thrilling energy through smart uses of texture, bouldering hooks, and a fair fight between noise and groove. There’s never a dull moment when EAT FAST are around.
The single ‘Immortal Kombat’ is taken from the ‘Immortal Kombat EP released via Cannibal Hymns.
