TRACK OF THE DAY: Forever Cult – ‘Codeine’

Lead single, ‘Codeine’ from Forever Cult’s new EP ‘Homewrecker’ is a fuzzy and furious headbuster of shouts and strikes.

Following October 2016’s release of single, ‘See Thru’, ‘Codeine’ manifests development beyond the indie/pop origins, enhancing their sonic gristle to give us a grunge number driven and dangerous.

The song is distortionist and physical, scratching and stomping its way into our minds, reminiscent of Mudhoney and early Queens Of The Stone Age. Married to a riff of thumps, the drums bulldoze through beats, as the Leeds three-piece coolly submit to Seattle grunge stylistic stereotypes with juxtaposition of more reserved, melodic verses, ready to smash bottles to raging choruses.

Vocal snarls hoist pain to be killed, matching listeners’ eponymous expectations, and sweetening dissonance with the guitar. Forever Cult create a colourful chaos.

Forever Cult’s ‘Homewrecker’ EP will be released on July 7th, through Clue Records.
