Aylesbury lads Birthday Card make a dreamy debut with ‘Heartstops’.
It seems like being sparkly and jangly yet mysteriously moody is their thing, the track echoes these attributes delivering heartbreaking lyrics, powerful guitar and synth hooks. These lads know how write a pounding pop song and aren’t shy about who knows it. Conveying a real sense of emotional depth and sentiment in the verses, a release comes in with the chorus, told by airy instrumentation and gorgeous vocals – this is the epitome of breezy pop.
Although I felt that the chorus could have said more, maybe an extra tag line is necessary to really seal the deal. Though the music in between left my head bobbing, it felt a little too long and could have done with some more of those great lyrics, I can’t be too picky, this is a cracking debut.
‘Heartstops’ is released on 30th April 2017.
