SONG OF THE WEEK: National Service – ‘A Little More Time’

Fierce Panda are on a role with their latest release, ‘A Little More Time’ the debut single from North London lads, National Service.

A trickling dreamy start eases you into the hypnotic world created by Fintan Campbell’s warm, honest, almost bear-like voice, then comes the all important “a little more time” to propel you into an instrumental filled with rich harmonies of Daniel Hipkin and Ian Moore, re-enforcement comes promptly from the steady paced drums of Matthew Alston.

Although I felt the departure from the title lyrics into this new section wasn’t as grand as I was anticipating it to be, more harmonies and a bigger climactic boost of sound would’ve done it justice with an emphasis on the meaning of “A little more time”, but they win me back easily when the sharp stabbing guitar parts come in at 2:20, a revival as they go into the bridge. Indeed the buoyancy of the track reminisces the likes of Wild Beasts (‘Smother’-era in particular), National Service still remain in their element and have all the qualities to draw crowds into their world, especially with a track like this, I for one, am intrigued to watch them perform.

National Service will perform at Birthdays in London on Saturday 25th February. ‘A Little More Time’ is available now on Fierce Panda Records.
