It’s been slightly over a year since Manchester-based singer/songwriter David Liversidge re-invented his musical identity and went forward under the new guise of LiVVO. Bringing forth a bolder vision and a more electronic-leaning sound, in which his signature personally-etched songwriting could flourish. Going through the motions, he realised the sound that he was achieving on record and in a live setting, wasn’t quite what he had envisioned for the new material and to reach its full potential, he had to build upon this – and so he took the obvious next step and recruited some players, to form a band. ‘Open & Close’ is the first taste of LiVVO in this new capacity and we say it’s a fine step forward.
The track builds upon LiVVO’s enviable skill for writing infectious pop hooks with a strong sense of melody and a driving atmospheric soundscape, punctuated by effects pedals and reverb, grooving percussion and guitars. This layering of sounds, although it could easily distract attention from LiVVO’s passionate falsetto and impressive vocal range, it miraculously doesn’t. After one listen to the track, we dare you not to be humming it for the rest of your day. You’re welcome.
