“Coming from a rap background the concept of other people writing my lyrics just doesn’t wash,” Tom insists. Prior’s début release confirms this. He is a songwriter at heart and it’s impossible for that not to shine through in his music.
‘The Altar’ goes out to all those with broken hearts or have been jilted by love at some point in their lives. It’s the fear of being alone for the rest of your live after a break-up, summed up bitter sweetly by Prior: “every boy you loved is in love with another girl”.
From it’s sensitive, humble piano beginnings, the track quickly sweeps up momentum and pace growing into a riff-fuelled pop / rock number. It’s lyrical honesty and direct delivery is it’s bread and butter and is sure to gain Prior’s music a lot of attention.
‘The Altar’ is taken off Prior’s forthcoming ‘Bad Advice’ EP.
