The Doctorates are a band that have just recently come to my attention and I’m so happy about this realisation. The indie rock threesome hail from the country locale of Canterbury. A city that’s steeped in history and tradition. While The Doctorates don’t go down the psychedelic, prog rock route of what the area is famed for, the music they make is just as invigorating and passionate.
‘Put Away The Medicine’ is a pristine slice of pop-inflected indie. Infectious, taut guitars rally around a hook laden bass line and a steady drum beat. Along with raucous surf melodies and a fiery vocal delivery, ‘Put Away the Medicine’ is surely their best song to date, a statement of intent that promises more good times to follow. For fans of Razorlight and Circa Waves, The Doctorates will be right up your street.
The Doctorates are an impressive outfit. With more songs to their name, I’m sure we could be looking at a band that can stand up alongside the best indie bands around today and give them a run for their money. Watch this space.
