I saw Elizabeth de Cent at Scruff of the Neck’s Chorlton Live event last night and let me tell you now how impressed I was. She’s just a delight, her performance was so mesmerising and beautiful that it left people craving for more, literally the crowd were shouting “More! More!” and I couldn’t agree more. Elizabeth de Cent is a really talented artist and musician who I’m sure will go far.
Her wit and charming lyrics show that she is a credible artist, she just needs to be heard. Her storytelling style really paints a picture in your mind, it makes you laugh, cry and rejoice as she sings about love, yearning, heartbreak and friendship. The thing that makes her stand out from every other singer-songwriter is that she writes purely from her own life experiences and while that may be true for many other singer-songwriters, she does it so effortlessly and she has the ability to make even the worst situation a little more sunnier, with her clever use of sarcasm and blunt quips in her song lyrics.
A slight tinge of self depreciation and naivety in the bad choices people make in life creeps through in her lyrics, giving the songs real depth, you can feel the joy and pain in her voice as she sings about love and heartbreak. She may be as sweet as pie but her lyrics also carry some bite. She is fuelled by her emotions, which I think is part of what makes her songs so poetic and it just cements how brilliant a singer-songwriter she is.
Elizabeth de Cent is a real diamond in the rough. I truly believe in this girl and her ability to produce real and emotionally charged songs, that encompass everything that the music scene here in Manchester prides itself on. She pours her heart and soul into her music and it shines through.
If you haven’t heard of Elizabeth de Cent, then give her music a listen, or better yet go see her live, and enjoy the musical delights that follow.
