‘Too Much‘ marks the stunning return of London-based balladeer Miles Horn, who we last heard from back in 2017, when his collection of four self-released singles won him praise from the likes of BBC Introducing and Daily Mirror, as well as receiving plaudits from many tastemaking online outlets, including this very site.
There’s an honest, stripped back quality to his new number, reminiscent of early Coldplay and Keane, or contemporary peers such as Lewis Capaldi, unpretentious and admirably restrained in its production. It would have been easy for Horn to take the overblown route and add layers of sound to push its message home. Rather, he opts for a more reflective, intimate take on the subject of heartbreak, a simple piano-led melody and some subtle percussion and backing vocals leaving a much stronger lasting impression because of it.
With further releases on the way in the latter part of 2019, we’ll certainly be hearing much more from this hotly-tipped singer songwriter in the near future. We’ll be waiting with eager ears to hear what he has in store next.
