TRACK OF THE DAY: Yawwn – ‘New Life’

London based five-piece Yawwn return to the music scene with their first new material since last year’s ‘Mercy’ – and it’s a tantalising taste of the band’s growing sophistication within the indie canon. ‘New Life‘ is an edgy, guitar-heavy song with soft intricate tones and plenty of lyrical punch.

Starting the song with twinkling wind chime sounds and a serene guitar melody, lead singer Toby Hasler-Winter’s transcendent vocals creep out into the track taking the listener on a journey to a psychedelic indie pop euphoria that is rough around the edges.

With two more singles on the way (‘Gotta Wanna Get Somethin’ Goin’‘ and ‘Mantissa‘) scheduled for release within the next month, and the announcement of their first ever London headline show, Yawwn have set the bar high for an exciting 2019.

If ‘New Life’ is anything to go by then this era of Yawwn is the potential we first felt right at the start, composed and fully expressed, and we can’t begin to imagine how good they will sound live.

‘New Life’ is out now – available to Stream/Purchase here. Yawwn celebrate the release with a gig at The Waiting Room on Saturday 18th May – tickets here.
