TRACK OF THE DAY: Vivienne Chi – ‘Blood Brother’

We’re still in the dark days of Winter but this could end up as one of those tracks that lights up the festival fields and tents of the Summer.

Its sedate early pacing blossoms gloriously into a heartfelt, yearning chorus redolent of the late evening sunshine after a beautiful afternoon.

Bristolian Vivienne Chi’s third release is alt-pop in a similar vein to London Grammar allying powerfully confident vocals with a sound of magical ethereality that washes over and surrounds the listener. The immediacy of heavenly, harp-like plucked guitar contrasts and combines with synth textures and her soaring vocals to glorious effect.

It carries the faintest echoes of her fellow Bristol natives Massive Attack and Portishead who she regards as influences, but nothing that detracts from this having her own compelling stamp.

Three releases in, following 2017’s `Vivienne’ and `Junk,’ and Vivienne Chi is already establishing a formidable track record.

‘Blood Brother’ is available to Stream/Purchase everywhere now.
