TRACK OF THE DAY: Honey Lung – ‘Stuttering Mind’

Fresh from headlining Reading & Leeds’ BBC Introducing Stage, London’s Honey Lung treat us to another absolute banger.

Previous single ‘Sophomore’ hit all the right buttons, and ‘Stuttering Mind’ continues this seeming trend of golden pop nuggets. Lilting guitar chords, backing harmonica, layered vocals and hushed breezy chorus give way to an echo-y guitar solo, the tempo kept at a constant until around the two minute mark, when the pedals are stomped on and the band rushes through a hazy storm of guitar wall loveliness. The guitar solo returns for a glorious victory lap before swallowing itself. It’s a heavy sugary rush of heart, soul, and crowd frenzy.

Throughout their debut EP ‘Kind of Alone’ and the two subsequent singles, Honey Lung have displayed their influences proudly, from ’90s Britrock’s huge choruses to the yearning of both grunge and shoegaze, mining the best of all these worlds to create fantastic escapist anthems. Honey Lung’s youthfulness is absolutely to their advantage, in that their energy and eagerness brings forward an absolutely genuine honesty to their songwriting. Here’s to many more emotional pop smashes.

‘Stuttering Mind’ is out now – and available to Stream / Purchase via Spotify and Apple Music.
