London art-rock six-piece Red Kite ease us into expansive new territories, on new single ‘Take Care of Your Own’. With four guitars and two drummers at their foundation, the band achieve new sonic heights.
Opening with layered breezy guitars and a beautifully reflective melody, textural intensity gradually builds and gains further into colossal territory. The use of a punchy, nuanced lyrical refrain creates a form of release at times but still manages to maintain the songs jittery and anxious mood, which is haunting yet luscious conjuring up various imagery in the mind. The repetitive nature of the melodic verses calls for a massive singalong, poignant and melancholic.
The lyrics are obtuse yet blazingly resonant, painting the picture of a character that has fallen off the rails and try as they might, can’t get find the light for the trees. The narrator however, feeling hopeless and remorseful for their neglect, struggles to find clarity when broaching a helpful solution. It’s something that taps into the heart of a lot of deteriorating relationships and is executed fantastically, complimented by the haunting backing track.
Red Kite show their heart’s on their sleeve with ‘Take Care of Your Own,’ and leave us eagerly waiting for more. Pushing themselves sonically and conceptually, Red Kite embody the fundamentals of what it is to be an art-rock band in 2017, and shake away some of the stereotypical, banal quirkiness usually associated with the term.
The new single is available to Stream/Download from all good platforms. Red Kite will play The Islington in London on 26th September 2017.
