SONG OF THE WEEK: The Big Moon – ‘Formidable’

Fiction Records signings The Big Moon have announced the release of their debut album, ‘Love in the 4th Dimension’ (due April 7th) and to celebrate they’re streaming live highlight, the by turns vulnerable and imperious ‘Formidable’. Verging on the epic, ‘Formidable’ is the most sincere take so far from the London garage-rockers, baring more resemblance to icy ‘The Road’ than their more playful cuts like ‘Cupid’ and ‘Silent Movie Susie’, this latest release showcases yet another side to the versatile four-piece.

Juliette Jackson shows off her great vocal range whilst Soph Archer once again states her case for being one of the most exciting axe-smiths around, concurrently drummer and bassist Fern Ford and Celia Archer continue to create their trademark delightfully wonky/solid backbone. The addition of an exhilaratingly jarring organ line (played live by Ford, always exciting to watch a drummer multi-task) is a great example of the quirkiness The Big Moon have become known, and increasingly loved, for. Overall, ‘Formidable’ is another optimism-inducing omen for one of the most hotly anticipated debut releases in recent memory.

The debut LP ‘Love in the 4th Dimension’ will be released digitally, on CD, and on heavyweight vinyl. Signed copies and exclusives are available to fans through The Big Moon online store.
