TRACK OF THE DAY: Slumbers – ‘Battle’

The debut single from upstate NY trio Slumbers opens with a gentle, dazy guitar riff and serene, reserved vocals which seem to blossom as more layers are added underneath. Each added instrument or melody breathes new life into the song; the introduction of snare provides a subtle backbone, as the horns add a tasteful degree of melancholy.

Above all, ‘Battle’ feels honest – an open and raw epilogue of emotion. It ties in wonderfully with the season, the shorter days are mirrored perfectly by the length of the song – a brief glimpse of light amongst darker times.

Known for playing live shows with eye masks and robes adorned, Slumbers play the music of sleepovers, long nights with friends and the intoxicating feeling right before you dream. These are the times in your life where you are hazy, intimate and carefree, and ‘Battle’ echoes this sentiment perfectly.

Slumbers’ debut EP ‘Come Over’ will be released on 25th November, via Sports Day Records.
