Irish trio whenyoung hit the bullseye with second single ‘Actor’ – a blast of distorted indie-rock drowned in lo-fi vocals and set loose with sugary pop hooks. The newcomers target self-image in a way that’s both bold and lightning fast. Concerned with the falsities that people wear as an act to dilute their own personalities, ‘Actor’ is less of a hit back at those ‘fakers’ than it is just a reminder to be comfortable in your own skin.
Vocalist Aoife Power discusses the lyrical meaning behind the track, saying that: “It’s about acting every day and projecting artificial images of yourself through social media and in real life interactions with others.” If this is whenyoung in their infantile early stages then the future looks to be more than exciting, rather positively thrilling.
Whenyoung will headline The Shacklewell Arms in London on 24th November.
