TRACK OF THE DAY: October Drift – ‘Cherry Red’

October Drift are known for crafting emotive sky-gazing rock, that is equally merciless in its pensive songwriting and straight-to-the-chest power punch ambition. Returning with last month’s softly abrasive melody-driven ‘Cinnamon Girl’, the Somerset collective hit the ground running to a powerful impact. Now in full-speed ascension, October Drift follow up with ‘Cherry Red’, a jolt of darkened atmosphere and propulsive energy.

Visceral songwriting is at the helm of the band’s powers, grounding the charge of criss-crossing guitars and fuzz-dipped noise in a profound certainty. This sense of conviction drives ‘Cherry Red’ to achieve its defiant acceptance, acknowledging band life for its head rush highs and isolating lows, singer Kiran Roy roars: “The past is patchwork / tomorrow’s guess work / I know I wanna go inside the stereo.”

Everything that this band put their hand to is considered and fully in their control – you won’t find October Drift consenting to a career move without each member being 100% committed to the decision.

October Drift’s new EP ‘This Is Nowhere’ is due for release on October 7th via Bad Rival Records. Pre-order on iTunes here.
