TRACK OF THE DAY: Francis Lung – ‘A Selfish Man’

The latest release from Manchester’s Francis Lung welcomes in a most infectious dichotomy between insatiable uplifting melodies and defiant introspection. ‘A Selfish Man’ is arguably the most familiar track in Lung’s catalogue, and one that easily leads the pack.

The video’s hazy dreamscapes capture the transitory nature of what it is to be a touring band, where endless hours are spent travelling leading to the cathartic release at the end of the day when the band take to the stage. Lung’s brand of alternative indie breathes sophistication, its pop roots allow just enough accessibility to draw in those hooks. At times a breezier modern day Orange Juice capturing the stylish rhythms of Neon Indian and at others, achingly poignant reminiscent of Mazzy Star. ‘A Selfish Man’ resides on the lighter scale of Lung’s catalogue beckoning many misty-eyed dances to follow.

‘A Selfish Man’ is taken off Francis Lung’s forthcoming ‘Mother’s Son’ EP, due for release on 16th September on limited edition 12″ vinyl. Pre-order here.
