Track of the Day

TRACK OF THE DAY: Toothless – ‘Palm’s Backside’

He’s done it again. More effervescent and melodic than his debut release, ‘Terra’, the latest single from Ed Nash ‘Palms Backside’ is still hazy, wonderful and breathless in the same way.

The vocals of Ed and Marika Hackman play and echo off each other wonderfully, and the lyrics take a more narrative approach than we’ve seen him take before. Opening with the line “A table for one, set for two”, ‘Palm’s Backside’ sees Nash fondly recounting a past romance – longing for days lost, yet accepting that perhaps distance is not such a negative thing: “You look happier than we ever were.”

Reinventing himself as Toothless, the fruits of Nash’s solo project have proven to be timid, intimate and moving, and this track follows suit perfectly. Whilst maintaining those magical and ethereal elements of Bombay, Nash is taking his music in a different direction – “Walk a new avenue” seems fitting.

Produced by Nash himself (with a hand from Jack Steadman) and mixed by acclaimed Beach House producer Chris Coady, ‘Palm’s Backside’, featuring Marika Hackman, is available to stream and purchase digitally from 6th June, and is released on vinyl from 29th July on ParadYse/Transgressive Records.
