TRACK OF THE DAY: Lowtide – ‘Wedding Ring’

You know at the end of the night when you’re looking for that romantic shoegaze track to bring out all of those pent up emotions? A song for the times when a bit of My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive just won’t cut the mustard. Look no further than Lowtide’s new single ‘Wedding Ring’.

Every aspect of the production, from the distorted background vocals to the surrounding Cure-esque guitar slides, reeks of an 80’s coming-of-age closing montage – and what’s NOT to love about that? Something about the atmospheric bassline and the mopey vocals instils a whole-hearted feeling of emotional tenderness, teetering breathlessly on the edge of melancholy if not for the sanguine chorus line – “be my wedding ring”.

If there was ever a song for the next generation of parents to tell their kids they fell in love to, it had better be this one. This is first dance material right here.

‘Wedding Ring’ is taken from Lowtide’s forthcoming debut LP, due out 5th August, via London based label Opposite Number.
