It is difficult to pin down exactly what it is that gives Westerman that distinctive haunting sound, but there are qualities to his music which are bewitching and enchanting unlike anything else. Just as you’d expect, his latest release ‘Jericho’ is enchanting, prophetic and divine.
As a follow on from ‘Misanthrope’, ‘Jericho’ has more of a storytelling vibe to it. The biblical lyrics of ‘Jericho’ drift between imagined people and real life, elevated by intricate guitar work, soaring saxophones and Westerman’s distinct vocals. The words are a divine prophecy and fit wonderfully with the cinematic scape of the music. Different to the previous single, this is much more of a slower burn. Let the atmosphere slowly build towards the last chorus and let the lyrics take you away. This song really is something quite magical.
‘Jericho’ is the latest track to be lifted from Westerman’s upcoming debut EP ‘Harvard’, which is out next month. Catch Westerman supporting Chelou at a sold out show at the Waiting Room in London on the 26th of April.
