Flaunting an American slacker swagger, ‘2AM’ is an earnest and endearing piece of music from Bear Hands, which throbs and chugs throughout with all the ache and emotional strain that comes with growing older.
Written from the point of view of a man teetering on the brink of youth and whatever is beyond, ‘2AM’ is choc-full of lyrics which are relatable and deeply felt. Lines such as “all I want is to forget how old I am” are delivered so whole-heartedly by frontman Dylan Rau that it’s almost impossible to ignore the heavy sentimentality which they carry. These lyrics only serve to add to the overall weighty atmosphere of the song, and go hand in hand with it’s dark, yet upbeat feel.
Released in anticipation of their upcoming tour with Cage The Elephant, ‘2AM’ is the first single from the new Bear Hands album ‘You’ll Pay For This’. The album was co-produced by Feldman and James Brown (Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, and Arctic Monkeys), whilst the mixing was taken care of by Alan Moulder (Death Cab For Cutie and The Jesus and Mary Chain), and is set for release on April 15th.
