Track of the Day

TRACK OF THE DAY: Perhapsy – ‘All My Soul Swallowed’

Astronauts, etc. and Bells Atlas guitarist Derek Barber is releasing his sophomore album Me Tie Dough-ty Walker under the moniker of Perhapsy and the brilliant ‘All My Soul Swallowed’ is the first single taken from it.

A pleasantly chilled slice of floaty experimental indie in the vein of Real Estate or The National, ‘AMSS’ maintains a consistent drive throughout whilst allowing for subtle but effective changes in the evolving musical soundscapes created. Barber’s voice nestles neatly in amongst the guitars and synths, not so much a strident lead line taking charge of the song, more as a warm adhesive solidifying the intertwining ideas together. The break into falsetto for the last 30 seconds does raise the emotional intensity however.

The opening and relatively isolated guitar line draws the listener in, and is slightly reminiscent of The Cure’s pop classic ‘Close to Me’. Whilst Perhapsy’s track goes in a completely different direction, there is a nod to this throwback melancholic vibe that inspires repeat listens.

Me Tie Dough-ty Walker is due for release on March 3rd.
