Aussie folkster Patrick James has unveiled a music video for his slow burning new single ‘Bugs’, taken off his yet to-be-released debut album. A fan favourite since James’ busking days, ‘Bugs’ is an acoustic track bolstered by a cracking chorus melody and poised production.
The vocals are snug and cozy, and immediately reminiscent of fellow down-under brothers Vance Joy and Boy & Bear, with lyrics that seem at once confident and paranoid in their assertion of bug-to-brain infestation.
The clip, filmed on a beach south of Sydney, is luminous and positively beautiful in its assured simplicity as it tracks a damp Patrick James from waist-deep shallows to hot yellow sand. Consisting of only one take, a few extras and some playful splashing, ‘Bugs’ pairs visuals and music in such a way that neither detract from the other.
