SONG OF THE WEEK: Slow Riot – ‘City of Culture’

It’s been a while since we last heard from Irish trio Slow Riot, and a lot has changed for them. They recently signed to London label Straight Lines are Fine and have just completed work on their new EP ‘Cathedral’. The first single to be taken off the EP is the fuzzed-up powerplay ‘City of Culture’

Slow Riot’s cornucopia of noise rock and riotous post-punk blazes with fluid melody and feral attitude. The band, inspired by their environment, took to their instruments and fuelled by the despondence that they felt around them, wrote about a critical time for their city. ‘City of Culture’ impacts immediately with ferocious energy, a roaring delivery and the unrelenting urgency of a pop song. Slow Riot are “looking for a reaction” and well, they’ve completely won us over.

‘City of Culture’ is out now on iTunes, buy it here.
