New York based duo Surf Rock is Dead have quite simply won over our hearts with their latest single ‘Zen A’. A slacker rock gem that’s wrapped in a post-punk blanket and thrown together with the jangly rush of lush, hazy surf. A combination that you wouldn’t necessarily think fits but it feels so right.
Whilst ‘Zen A’ lurks in the shadows with it’s darker approach to melody, it resoundingly rises forth in juxtaposition. Feeling more like a summer’s day: light and breezy than a heavy weight on your soul, which in part is accredited to the duo’s intrepid skill in creating rhythms and arrangements that feel weightless but still carry emotional depth.
Juddering, melody-driven guitars reign proud over bright shots of percussion and dreamy vocals, making it very hard to tear yourself away from hitting the repeat button over and over again.
