Sheffield band Beat the Bandit are no stranger to our pages, although they’ve been off the radar since summer 2013, they’ve not been sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Rather, they’ve been travelling around New Zealand and working on some new music that garners a more mature sound and a new musical direction, culminating in their new EP ‘Winter’.
On ‘Winter’ the band fire out anthemic stabs of catchy indie pop, ferocious rock riffage and psychedelic dreaminess in rapid succession. Lead track ‘Little Bit of Interest’ is four and a half minutes of pure bliss, with a soaring falsetto taking the lead resting atop of sun-kissed melodies and a sturdy beat.
This EP is a step up from the band’s previous material, introducing us to a more refined, somewhat sophisticated version of Beat the Bandit, but never loosing their unique brand of swagger and lyrical wit. The band have a run of shows booked around Sheffield in the coming months, for a full list of dates head to the band’s facebook page.
