London based foursome, Storms, have finally reared their heads again. After taking a mammoth break from releasing anything new, they have now regrouped with a new member. Hello, new drummer Mario and set loose new single, Swell and what a tune it is.
It is fair to say, that they’ve come back with a heart full of steely determination and a grittier sound. Swell sounds like it’s walked straight out of the nineties brimming with hazy Britpop lusciousness, grungy rock riffage, and zesty vocals. There’s a curios ferocity to this track, further amplified you might say by the video.
The video see’s a pair of floating lips mouthing the lyrics to the song set against a bombardment of images, that range from Pamela Anderson’s famous Baywatch days to superheroes, namely Wonder Woman, and other choice imagery. The video is completely self-produced by the band showing off their distinctively familiar yet slightly bizarre method of creativity. All in all, it’s safe to say I’m a big fan of what they’re doing and I hope you are too because clearly this is only just the beginning of something rather exciting for this band.
Catch Storms playing Camden Rocks this Saturday 31st May, tickets are available here.
