Song of the Week

SONG OF THE WEEK: Jim Hickey – ‘Burning Forest’

Berlin based electronic artist, Jim Hickey released his latest single, Burning Forest, earlier this week and it’s a beauty. After loving his first musical release, Railings EP, that came out late last year, we were very excited to hear more from this artist. Burning Forest came along at the right time and in true Jim Hickey style, the track pushes the boundaries of what you expect to hear from contemporary electronic music.

Burning Forest thrives in its purity of it’s sonic landscape and it also revels in its restraint, the synths glisten in their monochromic moodiness and Hickey’s smouldering vocals burn through this hazy bed of synths, only intensified by the raw intensity of his vocal. I can tell you now once you’ve heard this track you won’t be able to go back, it’s something that has real power and it has the ability to get under your skin, which is a rare trait to find, and of course, this track will bury itself into your brain and you’ll be replaying it over and over again in your mind for days after. Feast your eyes on a lovely live performance of the track, below, that Jim did in February at a session for Sofar Sounds Berlin.

You can purchase a copy Burning Forest from Jim’s bandcamp page here and while you’re there why not check out his other release, Railings EP. We featured a track called Everything off that EP previously as the Song of the Week here on Bitter Sweet Symphonies. We’re very big supporters of what Jim is doing with his music and with the promise of a new EP on the way sometime soon, it’s looking like a very exciting time for this artist.
