Song of the Week

SONG OF THE WEEK: The Kill Van Kulls – ‘Wishing’

The day has finally come, The Kill Van Kulls have returned to our airwaves and in full force. After gaining it’s first radio play, last week, on Xfm, the band just this morning let loose their brand new single, Wishing, out 24th March and before I forget to mention, you can grab Wishing this very minute from their website here for the bargain price of £0. Yes, you heard it! Absolutely free! Better hurry though, it will only be there for a limited time.

Wishing sparks the next step of The Kill Van Kulls journey together, taking a huge leap forward for the band. In terms of musical direction and just simply showing their evolution from their Lost and Found days to their Wooden Heart days up to now and we here at Bitter Sweet Symphonies are really happy to have them back, bolder and even better than ever.

The song is a commentary on various stereotypes within the fashion industry, it’s raucous energy and aggressive ‘grab you by the throat’ approach truly marks this release as a total game changer for this band. We know that The Kill Van Kulls always shine vocally and lyrically through Bartlett’s steely precision and remarkable charisma, but for lack of a better word, this track has balls. Wishing blasts into life from the get go, it’s visceral indie soundscape and power riffs charge with bold intensity and fiery vocals from Bartlett. A brilliant come back track that marks a new era and approach for this band.

With a music video soon to follow for Wishing and the increasing excitement for their début album that’s going to drop later on this year. It’s just starting to get very exciting again for this Manchester three piece and I couldn’t be more happier for them, and equally more excited to see and hear what’s to come.

After touring with The Fratellis last year on their highly successful UK tour, The Kill Van Kulls are set to take the stage again with the unanimously brilliant Glaswegian three piece, next month at Manchester’s Band on the Wall, as part of Xfm’s First Friday gig series. The full list of gig dates for The Kill Van Kulls upcoming shows are below and having seen them myself live a good number of times, I highly recommend that you check them out. They have a dynamic and energetic set filled with pensive, indie pop tunes and blistering pop hooks, they just, quite frankly, put on a great show.

7TH MARCH: Band On The Wall, MANCHESTER (XFM First Friday w/ The Fratellis)

18TH MARCH: The Cockpit, LEEDS
