Song of the Week

SONG OF THE WEEK: The Boom Boom – ‘Do About Me’

The Boom Boom are Kara Lane (vocals, keyboards), Bobby Boom (turn tables, synths, vocals) and Alex Boom (drums, keys, guitars). They make infectiously catchy, bubblegum electro pop. The thing that makes them so special is that they have the ‘IT’ factor about them, they are passionate and creative and it shines through in their music. They don’t conform to ‘the mold’, they re-invent the wheel.

Their song writing comes from a very personal place and they are not afraid to touch on the subjects that no one else will do. Lane’s undeniably raw, sugary vocals have so much fight and strength in her delivery that it’s difficult not to keep pressing the repeat button. At times it’s easy to make comparisons to Gwen Stefani with Lane, both are great female vocalists and both have that intensity and star quality about them, With Lane at the helm of The Boom Boom, they are sure to go far.

The song, Do About Me, is the first Boom Boom song I heard and it instantly had me hooked, below is an acoustic version of the song, but another song to check out has to be My Heart’s An Idiot, it’s simply stunning, it shows a more delicate and vulnerable side to the band, a beautiful ballad about unrequited love, it’s just enough to break your heart. Do About Me on the surface may seem like a carefree pop song, but if you listen closer, you can hear it’s not all rosy, the struggles she has been through but it’s a song all about perseverance and overcoming obstacles, which is a very positive message that we all can learn from.
