Some songs were made for a montage. This one was. Hannah Nicholson’s latest single ‘How’s the Weather?’ could have come straight from a Christmas TV ad, and I dig it. It’s warm, not gushy. It’s simple, but not bare. I love it, and I think you will too.
I wondered how to put this track into a single word. I thought ‘innocent’ was the best. The arrangement is delicate. On the surface, it’s just a piano and a vocalist. But there’s all sorts of little extras in the background, coming and going. A keyboard here, an echo there. There’s a lot of effort gone into this, and I love that.
Nicholson’s vocals are outstanding. Her voice is sweet and soft, a perfect partner for the arrangement. The lyrics are simple and solemn: “Time has shown us all, from a teenage postered wall… nothing really changed at all.” What a great line.
I knew it the first time I heard it. This was heading onto my Sunday playlist. Hannah Nicholson has got pianist/singer vibe down perfectly. She has her own voice, and her own way of creating a mood. If you want that warm, fuzzy feeling of something familiar, give this a listen. You won’t be disappointed. Trust me.
