TRACK OF THE DAY: Mugen – ‘Come and Go’

Head bobbers… Get ready.

At the unholy hour of 11:20pm, I’m listening to the third and brand new track from Mugen called ‘Come and Go’. Straight off the blocks it gets you pumped, the pulsating guitar licks reminisce an early Foals/Bloc Party, pushing us towards a dreamy build that is just itching in preparation for that fantastic chorus to kick in – a real FIFA tune. So simple, lyrically and musically intricate, which allows the vocals to flourish when needed. Speaking of which, the vocals and lyrics, delivered by Harry Kinchington, have a lovely quality to them and I can picture Main Stage festival mayhem with this track.

The band clearly demonstrates great songwriting ability, taking a sound so familiar yet it’s so distinct in their hands, which is only refreshing to hear. It’s driving me mad (in a good way), but, this much is clear, the 2m 51s belter is on loop and I for one, can’t get enough of it.

I must award the Mugen lads my highest award, my “Get to Work” alarm clock ringtone. Thank you and God bless.

Mugen play Sour Times’ all-dayer in Leeds on 16th December, more information can be found here.
