TRACK OF THE DAY: GURU – ‘Packaged Meat’

Ain’t nothing wrong with some cold hard rock & roll my brother, and if that’s what you’re after then Brighton’s GURU have some proper packaged meat for ya.

Fresh from supporting the likes of Honey Lung and Bloody Knees, their third single, ‘Packaged Meat’ opens with a fat dirty riff that’s put all NME hype bands to shame. Ferocious cries against alienation and ‘the system’ and Motörhead-inspired guitar solos soundtrack this four-minute stomper, which culminates in an ultra-heavy breakdown that will send hair and bodies flying.

In an environment of wacky psychedelic garage bands, it’s nice to see some lads who just want to keep it simple and just want to rock hard and loud. GURU are these lads.

‘Packaged Meat’ is available on cassette, complete with a 13-minute live recorded B-side, through Woyera Records – order a copy here

GURU’s upcoming gig dates are as follows:

12th Nov – The Joker, Brighton (w/ Secret Headliners & Kanadia)
28th Nov – Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Brighton (w/ Swedish Death Candy & And Yet It Moves)
