Canberra-based four-piece Slow Turismo return with introspective new single ‘You Were Dead’.
After earning quite a bit of well-deserved praise for their 2015 singles such as ‘Corners’ and ‘Falter’, Slow Turismo chose to spend most of 2016 in the studio working with Ben Woolner from SAFIA. Utilising Woolner’s experience and recording practices, the band opened doors to the world of experimenting, and have successfully reemerged from it with a richer, broader sonic palette that is audible after just a few seconds into their new single.
‘You Were Dead’ is an expansive, grooving track fusing intricate guitar riffs with an enveloping stash of reverb, crediting its unique tone to a hybridised approach to recording that allowed the band to cherry-pick the best of both analogue and digital techniques. Springing from a laid-back, indie-surf-nodding verse, the chorus hits home with its lush falsetto ‘ooh-ooh’ responses and a satisfying delivery of the hook line “In my head, you were dead”.
This new single will see Slow Turismo embark on an Australian tri-state tour, so we can certainly expect to hear more from them in the coming season. In the meantime, we shall let their summery vibes wrap us warm to face the last days of the English winter.
