TRACK OF THE DAY: Fictionist – ‘Free Spirit’

Salt Lake City group Fictionist make a run on the senses with the sharp, surging indie pop of ‘Free Spirit’. The lead track to be lifted from their new EP is both an earnest snapshot of a band who wear their heart on their sleeve, and a rollicking feel-good summer anthem.

The accompanying visuals pit the band against their director. The foursome work through various unusual set-up’s and narratives to find that their director doesn’t quite grasp their artistic vision, highlighting the song’s lyrical context and bringing it to life in a vivid and whimsical format. ‘Free Spirit’ breeds a certain alternative counter-culture to our strict routine-angled norms.

Fictionist’s modus operandi is simple: live life to its fullest, embrace freedom of self, and feel empowered in your own self belief. A way of thinking that is not too dissimilar from fellow inspirational power-popsters Walk the Moon. So crank up the volume and rage against the grain. Now’s the time.
