‘Joy’ marks the welcome return of innovative indie band Matthew and Me. The seven-and-a-half-minute epic is underpinned by ethereal swirls of voice and casually building sonics that turn astral as they ascend. The new cut previews a taste of the duo’s forthcoming extended player, due for release this Autumn.
Matthew and Me have always had a flair for the evocative and the indulgent, now this raw talent has been purified, refined to its gossamer beginnings and presented in exquisite grandeur. A similar (dislocation) or rather relocation has been mirrored within the band’s line-up, now residing as a duo, Matthew and Me are boundless and open to wherever the music takes them. All that’s left to do is to press play, and sink into the flowing abyss of ‘Joy’. For in all its melancholy, there is an awakening of truth – rudimentary and otherworldly.
