TRACK OF THE DAY: Let’s Kill Janice – ‘Balneum’

Now, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but this may just be the best fuzzy-Pavement-b-side-inspired-slacker-rock-pop track written about a troublesome skin-condition ever. Coming from Let’s Kill Janice, a project manned by Joe’s (Groves and Sherrin), ‘Balneum’ is a summery garage-rock anthem in the vein of fellow newcomers Forever Cult or early Black Lips. Which is why it figures these guys recently played a show supporting the latter in their home town of Bristol.

Whilst Summer may be Sherrin’s least favourite time of year (for eczema related reasons), the full album from which Balneum is cut could prove to be a staple over the sunny months for those indie-kids in the know, which you are too now of course. Never before has an in-your-face scream of ‘I’ve got eczema!’ been so catchy, to the extent that I’m going to have to be careful not to sing it out loud when I’m walking down busy streets over the next week. A perfect slacker-pop gem, ‘Balneum’ is an enticing preview of Let’s Kill Janice’s forthcoming debut full length.
