Song of the Week

SONG OF THE WEEK: ETCHES – ‘Do Nothing’

ETCHES have always been situated in the left-field, alt-indie bracket. Although, this still may be true, their new single ‘Do Nothing’ with its woozy rhythms, stylish hooks and incredibly tight production leans further towards an irresistible psych-pop edge.

Awash with reverb and delay, calmer and more aggressive moments, ETCHES introduce a lavish yet minimalistic approach to their songcraft. It is clear that the band are more confident in their musical abilities, and are allowing themselves the freedom to loosen the grip that they hold over their melodies, meaning that there’s a fluidity and an almost live feel to this recording.

The band seem to be stepping away from their electronic roots and are moving towards a sound that is more guitar and pedal led. Either way, they are one of the most inventive and purely brilliant bands in music today.

‘Do Nothing’ is the first taste from the bands forthcoming EP ‘Wall of Sleep’ out later this year.

‘Do Nothing’ and it’s b-side ‘The Great Void’ will be released on 24th September on Fierce Panda.

The band will be playing the following live dates in support of their EP Launch:

SEPTEMBER 24TH LONDON STOKE NEWINGTON Waiting Room
OCTOBER 1ST LIVERPOOL East Village Arts
