My introduction to Argentina was during England’s crushing defeat following that Michael Owen wonder goal in the ’98 World Cup- devastating as a nine year old boy. I’ve since recovered and moved on and have just been introduced to Resistencia born quintet, Oh So Quiet.
Their latest offering- Rain At Night, with it’s modern day Hokusai artwork, comes from their forthcoming EP which is set for release on 4th May (Star Wars Day no less). Finger picked acoustic guitar creeps out of the forest, offering the perfect encouragement for the voice of sister, Malena Zavala; a voice perfectly tempered with hints of her accent giving it a distinct and unique nature. Latterly, we are introduced to another vocalist, of the male variety, underpinning the lead vocal in a similar fashion to Justin Vernon on The Staves’ recent album. Fingers turn to strums as the rest of the band jumps in for a truly memorable, anthemic, folk-rock chorus if I’ve ever heard one. Already picked up by the crowds at 6 Music, Amazing and XFM, it’s unsurprising the Bjork entitled band are making a splash in their scene.
If we’ve understood something, it’s to anticipate the release of their debut EP. Also, never anticipate England winning anything, ever.
‘Rain at Night’ is taken from Oh So Quiet’s debut EP, released on 4th May via Yucatan Records.
