Envision the brooding, melancholy of Daughter with a touch of the atmospheric intensity of The XX and the understated, melodic elegance of London Grammar, and London quintet Sloes will emerge. The band may be new to our ears but they feel like home. Their music is full of pleasant surprises but still it’s intensely comforting.
Their début track ‘Devil in You’ opens to a simple guitar melody that soon softly reveals a haunting silhouette of strings, that hide a beautiful sorrow of impulse and regret: “Showing remorse won’t change the course, proclaiming your devotion / Your lovers disdain is set like clay, the wheels already in motion“.
Now that the band have shared their debut single ‘Devil in You’ with the world, let the hype machines start flowing because Sloes are here, and they are going to dismantle our hearts one song at time, until we surrender to their rapture. So I say, just let it in.
‘Devil in You’ is taken from Sloes forthcoming ‘Chasing Tails’ EP, out 28th May.
